Breast Cancer in Menopausal Women

Study Finds No Link Between Breast Cancer and Abortion in Premenopausal Women

Neither induced nor spontaneous abortions appear to increase the risk for breast cancer in premenopausal women, according to a prospective cohort study in Archives of Internal Medicine.

This conclusion was based on 10 years' worth of biennial survey data from over 100,000 nurses, most of whom were premenopausal at baseline and throughout the study. The authors caution that abortions may have been underreported and that the results "may not be generalizable to postmenopausal women."
