Richard Waldman, MD

Dr. Richard Waldman received his medical degree from the New Jersey College of Medicine in 1972. In 1976 he completed his Residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse, New York. After a two year United States Air Force obligation, he returned to Syracuse and has been practicing here ever since. He is a Diplomat of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and a Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Since 2001, Dr. Waldman has been re-certified yearly with the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecologists. Dr. Waldman has received several honors including a United States Air Force Commendation Medal, a District Service Award and a Section service award from the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecologists, and an award for community service from the Onondaga County Medical Society. Dr. Waldman currently serves at St. Joseph's Hospital as the Chairman of the Obstetric and Gynecology department, Director of the Performance Improvement Committee and is a member of the Medical Executive Committee. He was President of the Central New York Obstetrics and Gynecology Society and was a member of the board of the National Perinatal Association. Currently, Dr. Waldman is the President-Elect of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecologists. He is the former Chairman of District II of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecologists and former Chairman of the Council of District Chairs of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecologists in Washington, D.C. He has also served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Medical Liability Insurance Company. For the last several years he has been listed as one of the Best Doctors in America. Dr. Waldman has lectured frequently and published several medical journal articles. During his career, Dr. Waldman has advocated for improvements in the health and welfare of women by establishing the first hospital based midwifery practice in Central New York, father attended Cesarean Sections, the Birth Place, VBACs, the New York State Midwifery Bill and the right for women to directly access their OB-GYN. |
Douglass N. Powell, MD

Dr. Douglass N. Powell, founder of Obstetric & Gynecologic Consultants of New York and The Center for Women’s Healthcare & Surgical Services, is a diplomat of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and a member of the American Association of Gynecological Laparoscopicists. He is one of the few laparoscopic surgeons in the Central New York area and one of the first to specialize in laparoscopy. His gynecologic practice has two emphases; routine GYN care to promote health and medical well-being for all the seasons of a woman’s life; and the diagnosis and treatment of difficult gynecologic problems including infertility and incontinence. His surgical practice emphasizes laparoscopy for the treatment of endometriosis, fibroids, ovarian cysts, infertility, hysterectomies and other chronic or acute conditions. Laparoscopy, as a less invasive surgical technique, offers patients numerous medical benefits including; one-day surgery, short hospital stays, small incisions, and fast recovery times. Dr. Powell has been Director of Education in Obstetrics and Gynecology at St. Joseph’s Hospital Health Center and Assistant Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse. He has instructed other physicians and students and has overseen large labor and delivery, obstetric and gynecologic services. He serves as a consultant to other physicians in these specialty areas, as well as in the area of laparoscopy. He is a graduate of SUNY at Buffalo School of Medicine and he completed his residency at Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse, New York. James Brown, JR., MD

Dr. James E. Brown, Jr. is a Rochester, New York native. He did his undergraduate work at Ithaca College, graduating with a degree in Honors Biology. He immediately entered medical school at the SUNY Health Science Center in Syracuse, New York and completed his residency in 1993. Dr. Brown is board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and is a fellow in the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology in addition to being a member in several professional societies and associations. Dr. Brown holds academic appointments as Clinical Professor in Obstetrics and Gynecology in the Department of Ob/Gyn at St Joseph's Hospital and SUNY Upstate Medical University. Dr. Brown has a special interest in high risk obstetrics and infertility, minimally invasive laparoscopic gynecological surgery, as well as office based minimally invasive surgeries, such as ESSURE and Balloon Ablations. He was a founding member of M.O.R.E OB, a comprehensive patient safety, quality improvement, and professional development program for hospital obstetrical units. St Joseph's Hospital Health Center was the first hospital in the U.S. to incorporate this forward-thinking program which strives to improve the safety of obstetrical services. He has been in practice in Syracuse for the past 15 years and resides here in the city with his family. |
